The major feature of this year's course is a series of non-residential playing days (10am - 5.30pm) organised under the auspices of Language and Music for Life. Those attending the Playing Days are welcome to take part in the LMFL Open Choir and, if a player of a suitable instrument to an acceptable standard, the LMFL Orchestra (see timetable for more information).
Our move to Bristol which lies at the centre of one of the most active areas of recorder playing in
England gives us an opportunity to offer a series of non-residential Playing Days for recorder
players from grade 3 standard upwards playing one or more of descant, treble, tenor, bass or great
bass recorders. We will need particularly the larger sizes for many of the consorts - great bass
players will be very welcome.
All the music we will be playing is drawn from the 'free music' resource on the sheet music page of
the Dolmetsch website. Students will be able to download without charge all the scores and parts
beforehand from:
Free Sheet Music Resource
and additional copies will be available on each day of the course.
Participants may choose which days they wish to attend, or they may attend for the whole seven day Course.
The Playing Days will take place on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The tutors will be Dr. Brian Blood, Marguerite Dolmetsch and Dr. Arabella Blood.
The daily rate is £40 per person (no meals), £50 per person (including lunch) or £60 per person (including lunch and supper).
Language course
Please refer to the LMFL language pages for further details of the language lessons available.
Tuition is available as one to one tuition in conversational English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Mandarin: a set of 5 55 minute sessions (one session per day) for students coming for the Dolmetsch Course.
Recorder Master Classes with David Bellugi
Professor David Bellugi, working on a one-to-one basis, offers master classes for recorder students. These master classes are held over two weeks, in the second week running side by side with Dolmetsch Course proper. Students have two choices:
Bellugi Master Classes for two weeks (the week before the Dolmetsch Course and the week of the Dolmetsch Course).
The Dolmetsch Course for one week (the week of the Dometsch Course).
